Always interested in machines and the arts, he worked as a photo journalist and car mechanic while pursuing arts studies at Otis-Parsons in Los Angeles, East LA College, New York Film institute, and Art Center in Pasadena. He started exhibiting in 1980. His work was first noted by Forum Magazine where he was selected as the upcoming "Future Talent" in 1982; later that year, Ricardo was the first Hispanic to have a solo photography show at LAPC. His work has appeared in magazines in Japan, Spain, Australia, and the USA.
Ricardo is an artist across mediums, whose works tend to activate the unconscious minds of his audience. Some have called it visual poetry, as his paintings favor the abstract and the mysteries of the human race in a surreal environment. With his works, he aims to open the viewers' imagination, encouraging deeper thoughts regarding their meaning to each individual.
